Tile Projects

All of the tile work you see here starts out with wet clay.  I will either press the clay into my own original plaster molds or role out slabs and cut according to original designs.  I would be happy to do a custom project for your floor, wall, back splash, table, tub surround or fireplace.

The Bread Basket Bakery
Spring St.,
Saratoga Springs, NY

I was commissioned by the owner Hilton Tallman to replicate some tiles that were damaged when this old gas station was moved across town to its current location.

My part in the restoration of this historic building included replicating a large number of the flat roof tiles as well as a number of the edging tiles.

With architectural projects like this the challenges include choosing the correct materials...

calculating shrinkage, making some complicated two part molds and matching glaze colors and textures.

The Roohan Building Broadway,
Saratoga Springs NY

I completed this project with the help of 2 friends.  Darren Prodger did a majority of the frame making and tile forming and his studio was used.   Jill Fishon (I can’t spell Kovachick)was the facilitator. I did the carving of all the letters.

We used the same brick clay as was used on the rest of the building. The clay was donated from the brick manufacturer in Selkirk, NY. And the piece was fired in the kilns at Skidmore College.  Thank you Professor Regis Brody.

This fireplace was made for a local TV personality.

These tables were made to match the above fireplace.

Here is a stove surround...

and a detail of the same stove surround.

I designed the metal work on this table and had my friend John Branson fabricate it.

This raku back splash shows off the woodwork...

and complements the black granite counter tops.

I hope you are not afraid of lizards...

when you shower in this shower stall.

Here is the matching vessel sink in that same bathroom.

This tile was created from a company logo as a gift for the employees.

Here is a collection of tables.

Here is a raku wall hanging.
