Biography

While technology has improved certain aspecte of our lives it has also distanced us from some of those things that keep us grounded and(connect us to the earth) make us human. It has changed the way we work, the way we play,( the way we shop), the way we meet people and the way we communicate. One great way to reconect and nurture yourself is to surround yourself with finely crafted objects of beauty, to prepare and serve nourishing meals in a handmade, mindfully crafted pot. They are timeless, durable and pleasing to the senses. The creation and use of thoughtfully designed and well crafted objects of daily living improves the quality of life of both of the maker and of the user.

I create and sign every peice. In doing so I play a small part in keeping alive an art form that is well over 3000 years old. When I offer a piece for sale it means that I believe the form, decoration, and glaze have come together as an integral whole. Although(as a potter today), I use some modern equipment, the process and the materials remain much the same as they were in ancient times. It is a tradition that I am very proud to be a part of.

My Career as an Artist and Educator

I started working in clay in 1990 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. under the guidance of Regis Brodie. In 1995 I started teaching college credited ceramics classes at The Arts Center of the Capital Reigon in Troy, N.Y. where I was the coordinator of the Ceramics Department for a while still enjoy teaching today. I recieved a Masters Degree in Arts Education  from the College of Saint Rose in Albany N.Y. in 1996. In 1997 I was offered an opportunity to teach Tile Making at Skidmore College for a couple of years, which I enjoyed and apreciated very much.

In 2002 I started Saratoga Clayworks with my freind and business partner Darren Prodger.
